Legal Immigration and Family Equity Act (LIFE)
Former President Clinton signed a major US immigration legislative package called the Legal Immigration and Family Equity Act (LIFE) into law on December 21, 2000. The INS (updated-04-09-01) and US Department of State and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) have released several fact sheets on this new law.
US Green Card Replacement Program
Lawful Permanent Residents who were issued an Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-551), commonly known as a "Green Card," with a ten-year expiration date on the front of the card and the card is either expired or will expire within the next 6 months need to apply for a replacement green card. Online registration period for the DV-2008 Green Card lottery ended on 12:00PM EST (GMT -5) December 3, 2006. Winners are expected to be notified by the US goverment between April and July 2007. Losers are not notified.

Online registration for the DV-2009 Green Card will be available as soon as the program is announced by the US government. This announcement is expected in August 2007.
